Are you a potential skateboarder? You just got into the game of skateboarding? You want to learn a new skateboarding trick or two? More specifically, you want to learn how to kickflip? If your answer is yes to any of the above questions, then you have come to the right place. After all, that is why you are reading this article right now. As a fellow ex skateboarder, i am going to provide you with a clear understandable, step by step guide of how to kickflip, so you too can impress your friends. I started skateboarding in 2001, and believe me, have i had it hard. Despite the fact that i could barely balance myself on my skateboard, i could'nt even roll or ollie. A kickflip seemed like a hectic skateboarding trick to pull off, and even though i had no experience whatsoever, i promised myself i would never give up trying.

As the days passed, i eventually started pulling off perfect ollies, and by this time, my balance also increased greatly. I was convinced that it's only a matter of time before i land a kickflip. And boy was i right! Learning how to kickflip took me 2 days to perfect and it was worth it. Ever since, i started skating more often and eventually ended up pulling off bigger skateboarding tricks. I will now give you a step by step run of how to kickflip.

1. Once you are familiar with your skateboard and you have a good balance standing still and rolling, it is time to take it to the next level. Set your feet! Your front foot should be placed at a 45 degree angle just behind the truck bolts (centre deck), and your back foot should be on the tail. The front foot will be used to flip out the deck while your back foot will provide the pop, getting your skateboard to lift off the ground. You can also practice this a few times by placing your skateboard on the grass to prevent you from claiming some land in your quest to learnhow to kickflip. This happened to me alot!

2. Once you have practiced 'flipping' your skateboard a couple of times, and you feel positive about landing a kickflip, it is ready to begin. Set your feet as i explained above. Now give a slight tuck, put some pressure on your back foot (tail), and pop down. At the same time you will need to give a slight pressure kick off the side of your skateboard with your front foot. Remember to jump up immediately just after you popped your tail or else your skateboard won't lift off the ground. Do this as if you would do a normal ollie, just add the flip.

3. After popping and flipping your skateboard, your deck will now be spinning and you will have at least 2 or 3 seconds air time. When the deck has made a full 360 degree flip, bring both your feet back down and try to catch the deck grip tape side up. When you flip the skateboard, remember not to kick straight down but rather flick your front foot up and outwards at a 45 degree angle as i explained above. Lift both legs, keep an eye on the skateboard, and as soon as you see the grip tape side stomp your legs down, catch your deck, land and roll away.

When you prepare for your landing, try land with both feet on the bolts as this gives extra stability and prevents your skateboard from snapping. Also tuck down slightly on impact. You are now ready to learn how to kickflip while adding some speed, stairs or gaps.

This is not always as easy as it seems but hey, practice makes perfect! Learning how to kickflip really isn't hard, but that i will leave to you to figure out for yourself. Just follow these steps when you learn how to kickflip, and i almost guarantee you landing your kickflip within a day. So go on, go and impress some of your friends.
